One thing that will help regardless of build is getting to Kaineng City and buying a set of 70 armor. Thats nearly 2x what you are wearing now.
You should also look at the Guru section on Assassins and wiki listed below.

Good luck

Do you guys have a good monk? If not I suggest you go perma, which allows you to stay "untouchable" as long as you do the skills right. But your bar looks good imo, you shouldn't have that much problem with it.

At 40 armor you're taking nearly double the damage you would with max armor. That's where the problem is, and that's really all there is to it.
If you can't afford to buy max armor, there's a few collectors around cantha you can grab some ugly armor from in exchange for some trophies monsters drop, but it's still max armor nonetheless.

As well as what the others have said, it's not that far a stretch to hit lvl 20. Once you hit Kaineng City, it's all lvl 20 content so go for broke and get the few quests it takes to level up. Alot of the quests have high XP in that area so you should be able to get up to max in no time. 10k will get you a full set of armour (materials and armour purchase) then get your survivor insignias and go enjoy the rest of the game. Take your time and enjoy the quests.
Sins ftw!

me and my girlfriend also started factions about 2 weeks ago and the area around the marketplace and kaineng city was a real shock for us after going through shing jea island with relative ease, all that i would sugest is the same as the other people have already , get a set of +70 armor from kaineng city and equip a few survivor insignias.

since ur just starting out on ur assassin i would suggest getting flashing blades, its a pretty easy cap and a very useful elite until u get further into the game.
Shadowform isnt going to do anything for you at this point.
hit me up in game if you need help =)

the problem may not be in ur armor(though its important sins get max early), but rather ur placement.
are u running into battle first? sins cant take alot of heat like wars and dervs.
do u have monks behinde u?
when u get nf id suggest getting [critical agility] asap.

Yeh i was planning on getting flashing blades but i didn't get to cap it during the Oracle quest since i didn't know about it >_<! Shadow form comes in handy kinda sorta but yeh i rarely use it. As for crit agi, yeh that skill is awesome. i was so dissapointed to see it NF only.... Aswell as some of the other skills i wanted...

I play very carefully attack/retreat at the right times but almost always one way or another die! Its extremely annoying having constant death penatlys. I choose A/Monk (Which now i know is kinda a shitty choice). The build i run is
Golden Lotus Strike|Fox Fangs|Death Blossom|Twisting Fangs|Crit Eye|Crit Defense|Way of Perfection|Healing Breeze
My weapon is called Mallyx's Zeal|Slash Dmg:7-17|Dam+15(Health above 50%)|Energy gain on hit +1|Energy regen-1|Heath +30
I have Seitung armor +40 for everything.
So yeh, thats my build. Is there anything i shuold do to stay alive and not suck in pugs? Im at Nahpui Quarter right now and i usually end up getting 60% death penatly ! Any help would be appreciated!

Alright I didn't read everything everyone said so I'll just...ya.
1. Save up some money, first things to get are 70 AL chest and leg pieces.
2. Learn your Lines, thats Frontline, Mid Line, Backline., Keep yourself in the Midline, until combat is enganged then go to the frontline and engage. You should never (unless your like....SF using or Crit Def+Agility+ whatever >.>) .
3. This is factions, which means your dealing with the afflicted, use conditions and let the opponent die from poison/bleeding, run away before they explode on you.
4. With crit eye, you likely don't need Golden Lotus as much, I'd say pick 1 Dual for now, as money is likely tight for you.
5. Death blossom is spammable, but well Golden Lotus and Fox Fangs definitely are not, so think of that when choosing if you want DB or TF.
6. Healing breeze is costly, and if your running a good monk, you definetly don't need it.
7. Get yourself some runes, one mistake I made that hurt me later on, the way I implemented runes on myself. Stay the hell away from Superiors unless your build is designed for their health cuts. Get a superior Rune, put it on your lvl 70 chest plate, if you get yourself some better looking armor later, just salvage the superior and paste it on that.
8. Get a Longbow, it can help to initiate combat without putting you at risk.
9. Remember, know where your position is and you will not die as much, be wary of the afflicted near you, as their explosions can quickly kill you if you are not careful.
10. Think for a moment when in confrontation, if your taking heavy damage, where can you hide thats in range of your monk?
11. Dash will get enemy's off you, as soon as you press Dash and run, enemy's will go after other members of your team, as they realize you are to fast for them, utilize this.

Well i finaly got my armor 70 and yes it helps ALOT. I kinda changed my build abit though to be able to survive a tad better. I changed my skills to
Jagged Strike|Wild Strike|Death Blossom|Criteye|CritDef|WayOfProtection|Heart of Shadow|Dash
10 Dagger Mastery
10 Shadow Arts
8 Crit Strikes
(Im only level 18)
If im ever in trouble i just use heart of shadow and dash away to my monk or just a safe location. I just wish i had mobius already hehe.

Once upon a time up in Jersey, yo
Bit high on Shadow Arts for my taste, but your build looks decent.
[jagged strike] could be replaced with [black mantis thrust], even without Hex it's still worthier, maybe [unsuspecting strike] once you've raised critstrikes to 13.
[way of perfection] is easily the weakest skill on the bar. Consider replacing
[critical defenses][way of perfection] with [shroud of distress][shadow refuge] until you get Moebius.
[return] requires more manual dexterity than [heart of shadow], but makes your Monk a happier man/woman than a random shadow step ever would.
My usual secondary is Warrior, because of [save yourselves].
Good hunting.

Judging by ur attribute spread it looks like you havent done the two +30 attribute point quests. One is Lost Treasure from a guy in the town u get to after minister Cho's Estate mission, and the other is Unwelcome Guests in the harbor from the kirin up on the hill. They will help you bump up ur skills.
